HOME IMPROVEMENTS LANDSCAPING GUIDE
Our Guide to Landscaping
Good design of our outdoor spaces is as important as indoors, the space needs to be able to fulfil several tasks providing quite seating to just relax, entertaining areas where you can cook food, space for the children to play, an area for recycling waste, buildings to look after the toys and tools, and lastly a scheme of planting that is either easy to maintain or requires as much work as you want to do.
A lot of gardens only have interest in the growing months due to the type of plants that have been included, but all year round interest can be created with a little work and thought, Good garden design comes from understanding the clients brief and fulfilling it but in a way that gives the garden a feel of relaxation and flow that can be flexible when it is in use. The other important factors are the correct use of materials that suite the age and style of the property, a cottage front garden would look strange on a cutting edge clear lined house full of glass. We always approach landscaping in the same way, after a consultation where we take measurements and really abstract any ideas and aspirations you have, we then like to ponder and give your project a great deal of thought. |
We then create some sketches of different layouts, however, sometimes there is only one real way of doing such a job to best affect. When you are happy with the sketches, we then hand draw saleable drawings, which outline the hard landscaping, buildings and any planting schemes.
The design can be complex and include paths and walkways, seating positions, focal points and any number of other design features such as brick built walls and Bar B Ques, covered patios, summer houses even irrigation systems and full lighting designs.
Water is also a feature that many wish for, but can be quite labour intensive from a maintenance point of view. If are thinking of having a Koi pond, it is important to know that these ponds require the water to be crystal clear or there is little point in having them, to do this requires a multitude of pumps, filters and UV systems to maintain the water and must be covered to protect the fish from birds such as cormorants which will kill all the fish in a very short period of time.
So if you have a garden that requires our help give us a call, our initial survey is free, but depending on what size the area is, and how much you want us to do, will determine if our design work is free of charge but generally it is free.
